What is the SMLE?
The SMLE assesses whether an eligible medical student, intern, or graduate demonstrates the minimum knowledge, clinical reasoning, patient-safety awareness, and professional decision-making expected for entry-level medical practice.
Questions are computer-based and include both recall items and clinical scenarios that test interpretation, analysis, decision-making, reasoning, and problem-solving. The examination is delivered at approved Prometric centers under SCFHS rules.

Who Is Eligible to Take the SMLE?
The official 2026 blueprint lists three core eligibility routes:
- A recognized primary medical degree, such as an MBBS or equivalent, from an accredited health-science program.
- Having commenced training during the internship year.
- Being a medical student who is one year away from graduation.
The blueprint separately notes that Saudi university or college students may sit during the final year of undergraduate study. The eligibility service specifies Mumaris+ status as an Imtiyaz Year Intern or Practitioner; students should confirm their applicable route with SCFHS. Exam eligibility is not professional registration
Approval to sit the SMLE does not automatically complete professional classification, SCFHS registration, residency admission, or employment licensing. These are separate processes.

How to Apply for the SMLE
Registration begins through the SCFHS Professional Practice Licensure Exams Eligibility service in Mumaris+. Do not begin with Prometric.
- Access Mumaris+: log in or create the account used for your SCFHS application.
- Select the licensure-exam eligibility service: confirm that SMLE is the intended exam.
- Complete the application: enter identity, education, internship, and professional details accurately.
- Provide the requested evidence: follow the live document fields shown for your applicant type.
- Pay the displayed service fee: review all entries before confirming payment.

- Receive the decision and scheduling permit: an approved application moves to Prometric booking.
The official service page currently lists a target duration of five business days and a service cost of SAR 120. These are current service-page values, not permanent guarantees; verification, corrections, or applicant-specific review can extend the process.

SMLE Exam Dates and Scheduling 2026
Checked 1 October 2026: SCFHS lists the following remaining 2026 testing windows as open for registration. These are testing periods, not guaranteed appointments; recheck the official schedule and availability when booking.

Book through the designated Prometric system
Once the e-application is processed, SCFHS issues a scheduling permit containing the eligibility period. Use the permit through the official SCFHS Prometric service.

SMLE Fees and Application Costs
The SCFHS eligibility-service page lists SAR 120, checked on 1 October 2026. This is the application service charge, not a verified all-inclusive examination price. Confirm any examination, scheduling or rescheduling charge in the official booking process before paying.

SMLE passing score and result timing
The official passing score is 560 on the reporting scale of 200–800. It is not a percentage and should not be converted by dividing 560 by 800.
Results are not provided immediately. The official blueprint states that results are announced within two to six weeks after the end of the testing window. Candidates receive a statement of results and a feedback report.
Practice percentages are not official score conversions
A question-bank score can show trends in knowledge, pacing, and consistency, but it cannot be converted reliably into an exact official SMLE score.

How Many Times Can You Take the SMLE?
The official 2026 blueprint states that eligible candidates may take the SMLE up to four times in a year, beginning with the first attempt, to obtain a passing score. A candidate cannot sit twice in the same testing window.
After passing, the blueprint states that a candidate may be eligible for two further attempts to improve the score for residency-selection purposes. Classification, registration, annual, and training-year conditions can affect the available pathway.
Confirm your personal attempt status before paying
The live SCFHS exam page instead describes two additional attempts after an unsuccessful first attempt, with opportunities potentially renewed after one year. It also gives conditions for annual improvement attempts. This differs from the four-attempt wording in the 2026 SMLE blueprint (page 6). Confirm your personal allowance in Mumaris+ or directly with SCFHS before paying; do not assume that a fourth attempt is available.

SMLE test-day requirements
- Bring the scheduling permit on paper or electronically.
- Bring accepted unexpired identification.
- Ensure the permit name matches the identification exactly.
- Arrive according to the appointment and test-center instructions.
- Follow security and test-center administrator instructions.
- Use only materials provided by the test center.
A candidate who arrives more than 30 minutes after the scheduled time, or is absent, will not be allowed to sit. The event may count as an attempt unless an acceptable documented reason is approved under the applicable rules.
Examination-integrity rules prohibit unauthorized access to, reproduction of, or circulation of protected exam materials, including reconstruction through memorization.
