This article focuses on documentation and verification. Before collecting documents, make sure you understand the qualification, internship, clinical-experience, professional-registration and practice-gap rules that apply to the General Practitioner title.

Which Documents Does DHA Officially List?

There are several stages in the DHA process, and the exact document list depends on the service you are using.

This is important because a document used for eligibility review is not necessarily the same as a credential that must undergo Primary Source Verification.

Do DHA GP Applicants Need an English Language Test?

The current DHA professional-licensing sources reviewed for the General Practitioner pathway do not list IELTS, OET or TOEFL as a general prerequisite for DHA GP registration or the General Practice CBT.

This should not be confused with an employer, university, residency programme or another organisation independently asking for evidence of English ability.

What If My Documents Are Not in English?

DHA's current licensing manual states that required documents must be submitted as original copies and accompanied by a certified legal translation when the original document is not in English or Arabic.

Therefore:

• English documents generally do not require translation.
• Arabic documents generally do not require translation.
• Documents in another language should have a certified legal translation.
• Keep the original document together with the translated version.

Good Standing Certificate: One of the Most Important Time-Sensitive Documents

DHA defines a Good Standing Certificate as evidence relating to a healthcare professional's standing with the relevant licensing authority.

For the current Get Registered process, the certificate must be valid and no older than six months at the time of application.

DHA also states that the certificate should be issued by the licensing authority associated with the professional registration or licence.

What Exactly Does DataFlow Verify?

Primary Source Verification, or PSV, means validating a credential with the organisation that originally issued it.

For DHA professional registration, the licensing manual generally lists:

• Qualification documents
• Experience and employment documents
• Professional licence or registration documents
• Good Standing Certificate(s)
• Logbook for physicians in surgical specialties where applicable
• Assessment-exemption evidence where applicable

A General Practitioner does not normally need the surgical-specialty logbook simply because they are a physician; that requirement applies to the relevant surgical categories.

What Counts as Clinical Experience?

DHA defines professional experience as hands-on clinical experience gained by a licensed healthcare professional during salaried or contractual employment.

DHA specifically excludes:

• Volunteer work
• Observerships
• Clinical attachments

How Long Does DHA DataFlow Take?

DHA's current FAQ publishes the following timeframes:

These are the published service timeframes, not a guarantee that every complex verification case will finish without further communication.

Does a DataFlow Report Expire?

DHA's FAQ states that PSV reports themselves do not have a validity period.

However, if a previously verified credential changes — for example, you add a newer period of clinical experience — DHA may require verification of the updated information.

Can I Transfer a DataFlow Report From Another UAE Authority?

Yes. DHA accepts transferred PSV reports from UAE regulatory authorities including DOH, MOHAP and SHA, while reserving the right to request additional or updated verification.

DHA's FAQ also explains that a transferred report must be electronically linked to the professional's Sheryan record through the applicable DataFlow transfer process.

Understanding Your DataFlow Result

DHA's current licensing manual recognizes three main PSV outcomes.

UTV Is Not the Same as a Negative Credential

This distinction is important.

A UTV result means the verification process could not be completed. DHA's definition includes circumstances such as missing necessary credentials, lack of applicant response, or issues involving the issuing body.

A Discrepancy result, by contrast, represents negative feedback concerning the credential.

Therefore, do not describe every unsuccessful verification as “DataFlow rejection.” Read the actual result type first.

Can DataFlow and the DHA GP Exam Be Done at the Same Time?

Yes.

DHA's current licensing manual explicitly states that PSV and CBT can be completed simultaneously.

However, DHA cannot process the Get Registered application until the required PSV is complete and the required CBT has been passed.

What Can DHA Do When It Reviews Your Application?

A Sheryan review is not limited to a simple approve/reject decision. DHA's current licensing manual states that the application may be:

• Approved
• Rejected
• Returned for additional documents or information
• Returned for additional assessment or PSV
• Adjusted to a different professional title
• Given a trainee restriction because of insufficient experience or discontinuity of practice
• Given limitations based on the applicant's credentials

Career Gaps and Discontinuity of Practice

DHA defines a discontinuity in practice as an interruption in clinical practice exceeding two years.

DHA's current FAQ states that when clinical practice has stopped for more than two years, the applicant enters the PQR practice-gap framework.

The FAQ currently states that the permitted gap must not exceed:

• 5 years for non-UAE nationals
• 10 years for UAE nationals

The required remediation or trainee pathway depends on the PQR and the individual's circumstances.

Can DHA Give a Trainee Restriction Instead of Rejecting the Application?

Yes, depending on the reason for the shortfall and DHA's evaluation.

DHA's licensing manual allows a trainee title/restriction for healthcare professionals who do not yet meet required experience criteria or who must address a practice gap.

Training must then be completed under the applicable DHA-approved clinical training arrangements before the professional can progress to the intended unrestricted title.

Why Applications Can Be Stopped or Rejected

Instead of inventing a list of “most common rejection reasons,” it is safer to use the problems DHA itself recognizes in its licensing rules.

Important regulatory problems include:

• Not meeting the PQR for the requested professional position
• Pending or negative PSV results
• Evidence of a PSV discrepancy
• False, misleading or misrepresented information or documents
• Failure to disclose required disciplinary information
• Professional suspension, revocation or blacklisting where applicable
• Failure to meet current assessment requirements
• Failure to meet experience or practice-gap requirements

Practical Document Quality Checks Before You Submit

The following are ExamCure preparation checks, not additional DHA regulatory requirements.

Before submitting a credential, compare:

• Your full name against the passport
• Date of birth across identity records
• University and qualification name
• Graduation date
• Internship start and completion dates
• Employer names
• Employment start and end dates
• Professional title
• Licence or registration number
• Country and licensing authority

If a legitimate discrepancy exists — for example, marriage changed your surname — provide the appropriate official supporting evidence rather than editing the original credential.

Do Experience Certificates Need Specific Wording?

DHA's central licensing rules focus on whether the required experience is eligible and verifiable rather than publishing one universal sentence that every employer must use.

As a practical matter, an employment certificate should make it possible for the verifier and DHA reviewer to understand:

• Who employed you
• Your professional role
• Your employment period
• The clinical nature of the work
• Who issued the certificate

What If DHA Self-Assessment Says “Not Eligible”?

A “not eligible” automated Self-Assessment result does not necessarily end the process.

DHA provides the Review Registration Eligibility service for applicants whose requirements are not met in the automated tool or who want DHA to manually review their professional eligibility.

The current DHA service page publishes:

• Recent passport-size photograph
• Valid passport copy
• Educational qualifications
• Experience certificates
• Professional licence/registration
• Good Standing Certificate
• Surgical logbook where applicable

Correct DHA GP Documentation Workflow

Documents vs Exam: Keep These Two Processes Separate

Passing the DHA GP CBT does not repair an eligibility or verification problem, and a Positive DataFlow report does not mean you have passed the professional assessment.

What Happens After Documents, DataFlow and the CBT Are Complete?

The next major step is DHA professional registration through Get Registered.

DHA currently states that professional registration confirms that the applicant meets the requirements for the approved professional position and places the professional in the Dubai Medical Registry.

Registration is currently valid for one year and must subsequently be activated into a professional licence by an eligible DHA-licensed healthcare facility before the doctor begins clinical practice.
